Thunder Bay Resort is located in Hillman, Michigan in the northeast corner of the Lower Peninsula. This area is rich in nature's splendor during all four seasons. The resort provides a comfortable and welcoming setting.

This affordable four-day, three-night retreat is jam-packed with opportunities to socialize, sew, shop and pamper yourself. We guarantee you won't go hungry nor lack for projects to keep you busy.

Thunder Bay Resort provides spacious and comfortable accommodations. The new Pine Cone Quarters offers a charming location for uninterrupted group sewing and gathering for events. A typical schedule is check in at 3-4 p.m.; Welcome Dessert Reception and Wine Tasting from 7-9 p.m. A five inch Square Swap (usually there is a theme); "Show and Tell" in your room after the reception which shows off your favorite quilts and let's the friends you have just made know where your Villa or Suite is. Then it's back to The Pine Cone Quarters to quilt to your hearts' content.

The next morning breakfast is from 7:30 - 9 a.m. during which time we draw names for some of the many prizes we give out and it's fun because we go backwards in value building up to the last mornings' breakfast. Next the quilters go to the Pine Cone Quarters where the vendors give demonstrations of new projects and quilting ideas. In a typical retreat you will have the opportunity to visit up to 8 to 12 demonstration workshops. Then quilt until 6 p.m. when it is time for the Pizza Party or, perhaps a cookout. After the dinner it's time for a guest speaker and usually a trunk show.

On morning Number Three you repeat the schedule of the day before, with one exception: if we have a national speaker this is usually the day they will give their talk/demonstration. Then in late afternoon it's time for the Elk Viewing, Carriage/Sleigh Ride, Gourmet Dinner & Wine Tasting Event. After this, it's quilt time again. The next morning is the last breakfast and the final name will be drawn for the winner of our Grand Prize.

During some of the retreats we will have Appraisers. Some retreats will be staffed by popular local teachers and some retreats will have prominent national teachers. We promise you one thing...you will never be bored.

NEW!
Thunder Bay Resort has purchased eight "Janome Jem Gold 2" sewing machines to be used by our retreaters. These machines feature twelve stitches, built-in needle threader and jam proof drop in bobbin. The feed dogs can be dropped for free motion quilting. The Jem Gold 2 weighs only 12 pounds. The machines can be rented during the four day retreat for only $35.00 and will be available on a first reserved-first serve basis.

Comments from our guests

"What a wonderful experience! Thank you for everything."
Karen F., Hurricane, West Virginia

"I love the country setting and all the warm, friendly staff. The lodging is very woodsy which makes you want to make a quilt."
Rosemary C., Grove City, Ohio

The entire staff here has been wonderful, they seem to be some of the most pleasant people in Michigan

I am a first time retreater, so I didnt know what to expect. I was a little nervous. But everyone was so kind and friendly, I instantly became comfortable. The tips and tricks we shared and the gorgeous quilts everyone made was a treat! The elk viewing and dinner was the icing on the cake! Im definitely coming back! Kristal, Maysville, Kentucky

"The facilities and the meals were wonderful. This was my first retreat and I think other retreats will have a very difficult, if not impossible time meeting this standard. I will definitely be back for another Quilters Retreat at Thunder Bay Resort"
Terri Smith, Huber Heights, Ohio
