Instructor Biography

Bobbie & Joel Bergquist – Rindge, New Hampshire

Bobbie & Joel Bergquist are husband & wife quilt makers, manufacture & educators, who strives to keep things simple quick and fun.  Bobbie was the inspiration for Quilters Treasure whose goal is to give quilters an artist pallet.  Bobbie wanted to make a stained glass quilt and found nothing available to meet this need.  Joel created fabric which has inspired her & many other quilters to expand their creativity.

Among the new and revised techniques they have developed include “Stained Glass Quilts”; “Appliqué for Cheaters”; “Quilt-As-You-Go”; “Marbling on Fabric”; “New Ways to Use Tsukineko Inks”; “Silk Screening with Tsukineko Inks” & their latest “Instant Stained Glass”.  Classroom permitting they also offers class “Marbling with Jacquard Paints’ &“Painting on Silk & Cotton with Rocco Paints” Many of their classes offer a bonus, “How to make perfect mitered corners on bindings”. 

They have taught in 39 states including Hawaii, and conducts workshops, seminars & lectures at retreats, quilt shows, guilds & shops.  They have been fortunate to teach at Road To California, Mid Atlantic Quilt Festival, Hampton, VA & Quilt Fest of New Jersey, Somerset NJ, Quilters Heritage Celebration, Lancaster, PA, Denver National Quilt Festival, Denver, CO & Pacific International Quilt Festival, Santa Clara, CA; & at the Minnesota Quilters Annual Show & Conference,  a  teacher & featured speaker at La Roche College Quilt Show, Pittsburg, PA & at the New Berlin Quilt Show, New Berlin, NY 

Their son Brian, joined them, providing some Hand Painted Marble fabric Within the first year of business they that saw the need for Quilters Treasure to produce their own line of a commercial print of this uniquely beautiful fabric, making larger cuts & lower prices available for commercial and hand painted fabric.  Their fabric is now available in 54 delicious colors. 

As a family they appeared in four segments of Quilt Centrals’ series, “A Family in Quilting” & “Men in Quilting”, demonstrating Joel’s unique technique of Hand Painting Marble Fabric for the family based business, They also shared with viewers the techniques of how to make a stained glass butterfly, a method that reduces sewing by more than 50%. Brian’s quilt “Daniel in the Lion’s Den”   traveled the country in 2006-7 with “Men of Biblical Proportion”

They have successfully sponsored a mentor program bringing new designers into the quilting world & sponsor their yearly “Quilters Treasure Challenge”.

Bobbie’s physical & medical limitations meant she had to simplifying techniques.  What was a necessary modification for one made quilting easier and less stressful for all.   They now brings these same talents into the quilting world modify popular traditional quilting methods, easy to perform.  Traveling in their motor home they are living the dream of seeing the USA and meeting quilters from all over the world.  Their constant exposure to about 35 Quilt Shows each year, helps them gain insight into the traditional & innovative trends & keeps their classes & products on the cutting edge
